potato

we stopped for a wee macchiato at the italian centre and saw the television screens at the cafe broadcasting* the latest in papal madness: crowds cheering, pope waving, babies being offered up for blessings and so on...

mr monkey: the pope! i like the new pope! he looks like a potato!

which, in my mind, is as valid a reason as any.

*in italian, so i have no idea what they were talking about. all i saw was the rock concert screaming, the babies body surfing and the pope waving his hand from inside his circle of the men in black.

Heard a woman, a singer, on the radio, who on an early audition, sang "You say tomato, I say tomato... " Not changing the pronunciation, because she'd never heard the song. Still trying to find it, I'll let you know.

Just for the record, we Brits never say nor ever did 'pot-ar-to', for 'potato', though we do say 'tom-ar-to', it's true.

Not enough reason to call the whole thing off, IMO.

Hullo PC: Far be it from me to correct you, but was your post truly about the latest piece of papal madness? He has also created 800 new saints from a massacred people in the 1480's because they wouldn't convert to Islam. If memory serves, only the name of one of them is known. So we now have 799 St. John Doe's. He has (about two days ago) called on the business world to give the 'cult of money'. Well, we're all holding our breath, are we not?

zhoen - that is hilarious! and how, in the name of all that is good and holy, can one live their whole life without having heard that song?!

lucy - agreed!

tom - all we saw was a 5 minute clip on italian television, so there could easily have been other stuff but my italian is confined largely to culinary terminology, so all i could see was the crowds responding to him in a justin-bieber-like fervour.

as for the rest of it, the papacy is outdated and ridiculous and has none of my support, but hot dang, 799 st. john does is hilarious! will they number them now, so you know which one you're praying to?
